Surgeon Experience
Surgeons are able to establish the cost they choose to conduct hair restoration surgery. Oftentimes, the set price will reflect their experience and methods, but a higher cost doesn’t always mean more experience. Be sure to take some time to properly research potential hair transplant surgeons to choose one that will be right for you and deliver the results you’re looking for.
Location
Location is the next factor that will play a role in determining hair restoration costs. Depending on where your surgeon is located, the cost of living in that area and competing surgeons can play a part in determining the overall cost of a hair transplant.
Type of Procedure
There are two types of hair transplant methods, each with its own pros and cons. Typically, FUE will be more expensive than FUT because it is the gold standard for hair transplant methods, and each follicle is individually removed from the donor area.
Amount of Hair Being Transplanted
Like any purchase, the more you get of something, the more it will typically cost. The same rule can apply when determining your hair restoration cost. The more grafts that are required to cover the transplant area, the higher the price will usually be.
Additional Hair Restoration Costs
Beyond the upfront cost for hair restoration surgery, there are some additional costs that will factor into how much the total procedure will cost in the end.
Travel
If your surgeon of choice isn’t in your city, state, or even country, the additional travel costs will factor into your total hair restoration cost. Beyond the travel to and from the office, it will be important to consider where you will be staying during your travels as well when budgeting for the procedure. While traveling for a hair restoration surgery can be difficult and costly, some surgeons offer travel programs and credit that can be applied toward the procedure. Be sure to ask surgeons about their travel program when researching your options.
Recovery
After the completion of the procedure, patients will enter a brief recovery period. During this time, surgeons may ask recovering patients to rest for a set number of days and treat themselves in order to prevent infections and promote healing. Part of the recovery process can include taking anti-biotics or apply creams to the transplant area. Depending on insurance coverage, these costs might have to come from the patient and can play a role in the overall cost of hair restoration.
